Busy Weekend...

I have not stopped all weekend! Finished two custom orders, had a lovely picnic by the lake, took Gristle to the dog park, worked at the bridal shop, did some trim work at one of the houses Dusty is working on (yeah- I used a hand plane.. ) and hope to go for a short hike this evening... whew! I feel like I need at least 5 more hours to my day... and looking ahead to this week it's going to be just as crazy. I am getting a haircut on Thursday- nervous to be going to someone other than my bff. Trying to decide if I want bangs... My best friend Ashley is due in two weeks and I am STOKED to be heading to MD to see her and meet her little girl!!! Will post lots of pics of course :) Here are some pictures of the last few days:

Finally have my sewing room all set up! I don't know if you remember what it looked like just after we moved in but it has definitely come a lonnngggg way!

an inspired monday

So my day is in need of a little inspiration- hopefully yours is too! Since I haven't found a full time job yet, I've had more time to peruse my favorite blogs and scope out Etsy a bit. Here are some things I'm currently loving:

Barelymeasured Going... Wholesale?

Maybe, we'll see. I just shipped off a sample box of my new fall accessories to Flower Child, in Chestertown, MD after the owner, Angela called me to see if I'd be interested in selling wholesale and starting an accessory line. I've been selling Barely Bags there for a little over a year now on commission and it would be super rad to have the opportunity to sell wholesale AND to expand into accessories. I don't want to jinx it but I am too excited not to post. Here is a peek at what I sent her:

Green River Canoe Trip

Dusty and I decided that we are both workaholics and we need to be better about scheduling time to relax and enjoy life- especially before winter hits and I'm too terrified to drive anywhere. Last weekend we took Sunday off and rented a canoe. Gristle was a hit in his little life vest and we completed the 8.5 mile trip in just under 3 hours. We had a great time and the scenery was amazing.

Ghetto Blogging

So, I'm sitting in my car, in the parking lot of the coffee shop down the road because it's closed and because I need to use the internet. yeah... the one thing making it even more annoying is the creepy man in the van next to me- either enjoying the wifi as well or stitching up a quick skin suit from his latest parking lot victim-- I can't wait until the cable company hooks up our internet! Anyhoo- the lack of internet is why I've been posting three or four posts at a time.. bear with me!

A lot of exciting things have been happening lately with barelymeasured- including a custom order from a fabulous lady- Jess from IROCKSOWHAT. (While you're checking out her blog- if you're not already familiar- you should go ahead and vote for her blog HERE!) With her growing photography interest (she's got mad skillz) and adorable son, Wyatt, Jess was looking for a handbag that could accommodate everything from cameras and diapers to a wallet and chap stick.  I'm really excited about what I came up with:

The exterior fabric is a heavyweight canvas from Ikea that I am obsessed with and the lining is an organic cotton. I lined the entire bag with interfacing for structure and fleece to protect valuables. Two padded pockets on the inside would be great for a camera and lenses. I also love the heavy duty inset zipper.

Umm, hello my name is Heather and I'm addicted to fabric....

That's it- I am not allowed to enter another fabric store or purchase fabric from online until I start making a serious dent in my stock pile! Of course when I found out that we were moving to Vermont I immediately googled nearby fabric stores. I stumbled upon Nido in Burlington- and guess what? Their shop is as rad as there website!!! I hope I didn't scare the owner with my enthusiasm  but after two trips to the local JoAnn's I was super stoked to find an alternative. And let me just say that I wanted to buy EVERYTHING!!! This shop is a must-see if you're in the Burlington area! They even have classes that are super affordable. I definitely want to take one this fall. They're hiring for instructors and I'd love to do it but it scares me a little... I know I could come up with a pattern and lesson plan- with measurements- (I know, I know).. haha. Something to think about. Check out my purchases- I am in LOVE with everything- even the bag it came in! The only downside to the entire trip is that I have to part with the fabric to wash it and that I can't start using it immediately :)

Kraut!

Connie (my fabulous new neighbor) invited me over to make sauerkraut the other day! The process is super easy and I got some great shots. We used cabbage from the garden, salt, caraway seeds, and some red onion. Now we're letting it sit to taste :)

Sterling Pond

Just past Smuggler's Notch there is a pull off on rt. 108 and trail that leads up to Sterling Pond. The other day Tessa, Mike, Dusty and I hiked up to the pond and to the top of the ridge. It was a fairly short but strenuous hike although the views were definitely worth it!
